Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012

In 2012, the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 (the old Act) was replaced with the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 (the AIR Act). All incorporated associations' rules must now address 23 items listed in Schedule 1 to the AIR Act (Scheduled Items). Some of these items are entirely new, and some have been amended from scheduled items in the old Act. To learn more about these changes access the PILCH website and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (the ACNC) website.

Latest on changes to Works Health & Safety laws relating to volunteers

Health and Safety Laws are changing to a National set of laws to specifically include volunteers. However, until Victoria adopts the national laws the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act will continue to apply and organisations that work with volunteers need to be aware of their obligations under Victorian law. To stay abreast with the latest developments refer to Volunteering Victoria's Fact Sheet.

PilchConnect: a specialist legal service for community organisations have developed a guide to assist Victorian NFP's with OHS requirements. This OHS guide is designed to provide people who are involved in not-for-profit community organisations with a basic understanding of occupational health and safety laws in Victoria. Also, Safe Work Australia have developed a useful array of resources to support Work Health Safety for volunteers.
