On Wednesday 29 July, volunteers, community organisations and community leaders came together at Wurriki Nyal to celebrate the people who give their time, skills and compassion to make our region a better place.
Hosted by Volunteering Geelong and Rotary Club of Kardinia, in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong, the Geelong Volunteer Awards 2026 celebrated the remarkable contributions of this year’s finalists and recognised the recipients of the five Volunteer of the Year Awards. We were honoured to have the Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong, Cr Dr Stretch Kontelj OAM, in attendance to help acknowledge the outstanding contribution volunteers make across our region.
The evening was filled with inspiring stories, heartfelt moments and opportunities to connect with volunteers, community organisations and local leaders who share a commitment to building a stronger, more connected community.
Every nomination told a story of kindness, generosity and dedication. While five volunteers were recognised with awards on the night, every nominee and finalist has made a meaningful difference, and we thank each and every one of them for the impact they have on our community.

minded members.
The most common reported motivation among Volunteers is “to help others” (62%). Other motivations were “to give back to those who’ve helped me”, and “to support and learn more about a cause”.
Programs
Volunteering Geelong works with local groups and organisations across Geelong and Colac to deliver programs that support people with specific needs. Many of these initiatives assist those in lower socio-economic areas, indigenous communities, people with a disability, and new migrants.
These programs are made possible through the generosity of volunteers who share their time, skills, and knowledge.
